ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (Aug. 1, 2000) - ICG Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: ICGX) today announced the Colorado, California and Ohio launch of its integrated access product, iConverge, a business solution combining high-speed Internet access and reliable, cost-effective voice services on a single T1 line. iConverge is a newly designated, Cisco Powered Network service that runs on ICG's multiservice Cisco-based network.
"Our customers want a business solution that not only meets their company's communication needs, but also positively impacts its bottom line," said Bill Beans, ICG's president and chief operating officer. "With the Internet becoming increasingly important to business success, iConverge provides small- and mid-size business customers with a more cost-effective way to increase their Internet utilization and improve their supply-chain management."
With a powerful, end-to-end Cisco Powered Network, ICG is able to provide its customers with high-performance, customer-focused, reliable, and secure network services. iConverge utilizes the Cisco 6705 Integrated Access Device (IAD), which combines voice and data onto one T1 line, as well as the Cisco 6732 Multiservice Access Platform (located at an ICG central office), which routes calls to either the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) or over ICG's backbone to an ISP provider for Internet connectivity.
"Cisco's integrated access solution simplifies network deployment, enabling ICG to reduce network costs and expand and deploy new service offerings quickly," said Kevin Kennedy, senior vice president of Cisco's Service Provider Line of Business. "By working with Cisco, ICG can easily migrate to New World, packet-based solutions while maximizing revenues from existing circuit-based offerings, ultimately helping to maintain the company's leadership position in the telecommunications industry."
Through partnerships with Internet service provider (ISP) partners, ICG will provide the voice and routing capabilities, while its ISP partners will provide the Internet service component.
ICG will install and maintain the Cisco 6705 IADs at the customer premises and will provide that equipment at no additional charge to the customer.
ICG will be demonstrating the versatility of its iConverge product at The International Golf Tournament in Castle Pines, Colo., July 31 - Aug. 6. The demonstration, Aug. 3-6, will highlight the capability of iConverge to simultaneously complete voice and facsimile transmissions, as well as data transmission for Internet connectivity. Attendance at the iConverge demonstration is by invitation only.
