HOUSTON, TX., August 9, 2000 - HTE8 today announced its deployment of fixed wireless broadband networks to provide high-speed last mile data solutions. HTE8's initial Houston deployment begins its wireless broadband network expansion to 20 strategic markets throughout the US over the next 24 months. HTE8 will be using technologies from Cisco Systems, Inc. for deployment of its point-to-point solution, and will have early access to Cisco's point-to-multipoint solution for the 5.7Ghz UNII band. In addition to its designation as a Cisco Powered Network Program member - offering customers services that run on quality-of-service (QoS) networks - HTE8 will also participate in Cisco's "Jump Start" program, designed to assist companies in developing quick and effective entry into the marketplace.
Both HTE8's point-to-point and point-to-multipoint implementations will utilize the 5.7 GHz unlicensed spectrum (U-NII), allowing them to quickly deploy broadband connectivity for customers. "HTE8 understands that time-to-market with advanced services is critical in the early stages of the broadband fixed wireless market," said Bill Stuart, CEO of HTE8. " Using fixed wireless as our main access technology allows us to save infrastructure costs associated with other broadband access alternatives, and allows us to get to market quickly."
HTE8's wireless implementation uses a broadband packet-based solution that offers unsurpassed data rates in both traditional line-of-site operations and obstructed environments that were, until now, never considered suitable for wireless products. With up to 44 Mbps of fully duplexed data transfer in non-line-of-site (NLOS) environments and coverage of up to 25 miles (15 for optimal QoS), the Cisco broadband wireless solutions provide high-bandwidth where traditional techniques fail.
The Cisco WT2700 Technology Suite embeds Vector Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (VOFDM), which allows wireless operation in obstructed (NLOS) environments by taking advantage of multipath signals. The Cisco WT2700 is built on the Cisco 7200 Universal Broadband Router (uBR) and supports the full-featured Cisco IOS. software, including layer 3 functionality.
With the Cisco Solution, HTE8 customers can be up and operational in 5 to 10 days, with data rates up to 44.6Mbps. This solution can also aggregate multiple Radio Frequency (RF) links to provide greater bandwidth.
In addition to the enterprise market, HTE8 also sells its wireless solutions to Internet Service Providers (ISPs), Competitive Local Exchange Carriers (CLECs) and telecom providers in need of alternative last mile solutions. These customers can resell the Cisco solution, or utilize it as an extension of their current network. Other potential applications include the use of microwave as the last mile connection into rural communities.
