Genuity has deployed XACCT's solution with its Cisco Powered Network infrastructure to leverage Cisco's advanced capabilities in granular data generation, enabling the development of unique and differentiated pricing models for select IP services offered on its global network.

Business Infrastructure For The Next-Generation Services
The multi-source, multi-layer architecture of XACCTusage enables Genuity to extract IP session and transaction information from multiple network devices and from all layers of its network, from the physical layer to the application layer, in real time. XACCTusage distills and enhances this raw data to produce accurate, meaningful billing records called XDRs, or eXtensible Detail Records, similar to the Call Detail Records (CDRs) generated by telco switches, and feeds them to the billing system. Genuity has already integrated XACCTusage with its existing Kenan Arbor Customer Care and Billing (CCB) system to create customer bills.
Genuity can use the information captured by XACCTusage to aid in traffic engineering tasks, analyze usage trends, plan network resource provisioning, and audit service usage, thus enabling quick deployment of new services such as Web-based conference calling and enterprise-based friends and family plans. In addition, XDRs allow service providers to develop and price services based on different levels of service, such as premium wireline or best-effort QoS.
