HANOI, Vietnam -- 25 August 2000 -- Cisco Systems, Inc., the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet, and IndochinaNet Vietnam, one of the country's leading information technology solutions providers, are building the country's first Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) network for Extramedia Vietnam Ltd., a sister company of IndochinaNet in the Extramedia Network.

The VoIP multiservice network, part if an integrated element of the total IT solution that IndochinaNet is deploying for Extramedia, will provide telephony and data services to the company's new offices in Ho Chi Minh City. Multiservice networking allows Extramedia to create a single, powerful network that is far easier and less expensive to manage and operate. But the benefit does not stop there.

Consolidating data, voice, and video networks into one architecture will enable them not only to bring spiraling costs under control, it also gives them a new way to do business - a better way to compete. Extramedia will be able to develop and deploy a whole new class of powerful applications never before possible with separate networks.

"Extramedia uses leading edge Internet technologies to build new Internet companies. When it came time to choose a telephony solution for our new offices in Singapore and Ho Chi Minh City, we evaluated the current market offerings, in association with Indochinanet, and settled on a Cisco VoIP solution, Cisco was clearly pushing up the envelope considerably more than other vendor marketing VoIP solutions. It was a clear fit for Extramedia," said Steve Paris, Group Chief Technology Officer and Director, Extramedia Pte Ltd.

"It is exciting to be able to be involved in the development of the next generation Internet infrastructure in Vietnam. Extramedia is on the cutting edge of technology adoption in the country and with the network solution that we are providing them, they will see tremendous competitive advantages as well as the capability to roll out exciting new applications such as VoIP and Internet Call Centers," said Hao Huy Ha, Country Manager of Vietnam, Cisco Systems.

ISP (Informatic Service Provider), one of Cisco's first certified premier partners in Vietnam, is working with IndochinaNet to deploy the Extramedia VoIP network, which comprises Cisco 3600 multiservice access routers, Call Manager software and the industry-leading Cisco Catalyst switches. The Cisco 3600 Series is a family of modular, multiservice access platforms for medium and large-sized offices and smaller Internet Service Providers. The Cisco 3600 also has many voice capabilities and operates with Call Manager software to become a gateway for PBX and PSTN for IP telephony, enabling applications like call transfers, holds, and conferencing.
