SYDNEY -- 21 August 2000 -- Cisco Systems has appointed Compaq Computer Australia as a Cisco Systems Gold Certified Partner following a year of internal development, training and preparation.

The move further cements the global resale alliance between Compaq, Australia's top supplier of network servers and related services and Cisco Systems, the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet.

Under the agreement, Compaq will provide a full range of network implementation services and support for Cisco customers in Australia and New Zealand. Compaq becomes one of currently five Cisco Gold Certified Partners in Australia, joining Com Tech Communications, Equant Integration Services, Logical Networks and NetStar Networks.

Through the Gold Certified Partner accreditation process, Compaq has proven it has the appropriate number of sales and support staff as well as technical competence in network design and management and the management of global networking solutions. In addition, Compaq can provide 24-hour support, seven days a week for its customers.

"The certification strengthens the already strong relationship between Cisco and Compaq and will provide better service for the complex networking needs of corporate customers," said Terry Walsh, Managing Director, Cisco Australia.

"Compaq is already a global integrator of Cisco solutions and the Gold Certification for Compaq will ultimately benefit the Australian Internet economy, " Mr Walsh said.

In order to fulfill this important prerequisite, Compaq engineers underwent rigorous training and testing to achieve their CCIE accreditations - a significant investment for Compaq.

Andrew Licence, director Professional Services, Compaq Computer Australia, said, "This Gold Certification will augment the extensive networking services we provide through our Compaq Global Services division, enabling our network engineers to continue to offer the most professional and complete solutions in a competitive marketplace."
