SYDNEY -- 11 August 2000 -- Cisco Info Center (CIC) will provide real-time end-to-end monitoring for Cable & Wireless Optus' new online helpdesk solution, e-Care.

e-Care is designed to give IT Managers real-time access to information about their Internet Protocol (IP) networks.

David Stokes-McKeon, Director E-Solutions, Cable & Wireless Optus said; "Using e-Care means that companies can focus on their core business, secure in the knowledge their IT department is in touch and in control of the network operations."

CIC is a service-level monitoring and diagnostics tool that provides network fault and performance monitoring, trouble isolation, and real-time service-level management for large networks. CIC is based on the NETCOOL® suite from Micromuse Inc. (Nasdaq:MUSE), a leading provider of fault and service-level management software. CIC was selected because of its comprehensive end-to-end solution that delivers real-time fault data on virtually every underlying network component of the new infrastructure.

Initially available to Optus Private IP, e-Care is accessed via a web-browser on the desktop, through the internet, or by a dial-up link.

"Cisco Info Center will allow Optus customers to manage their network on all levels, and react to today's dynamic business environment," Kurt Hansen, General Manager, Service Provider Line of Business, Cisco Systems said.

"Being able to proactively spot and resolve any potential problems in the network infrastructure before they cause an outage in service is important to Optus's success as a service provider."

"Cisco Info Center allows operators to build views of services in real-time, helping them manage networks more efficiently. Because it is scalable and deploys rapidly, this solution allows Optus customers to roll out and expand their network quickly," Mr Hansen said.

Cisco Info Center supports more than 200 off-the-shelf interfaces that collect management data from a wide variety of systems and protocols. The data is rapidly processed and filtered by the CIC ObjectServer, an in-memory database. Cisco Info Center allows operators to build views of services in real-time, helping them manage networks more efficiently. Because it is scalable and deploys rapidly, this solution allows Cable and Wireless Optus to quickly extend the service to meet growing demand.
