RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC, July 21, 2000 - Cisco Systems, Inc. the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet, today announced the departure, effective August 1, 2000, of Selby Wellman, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Cisco's Interworks Business Division. Wellman is also Cisco's site executive for its Research Triangle Park, North Carolina (RTP) campus. Wellman is leaving the company to pursue personal, family and part-time outside business interests.
During Wellman's five-year tenure, Cisco became the industry leader in developing products to assist customers with legacy SNA networks to connect to the Internet. Cisco holds an eighty percent share of this market. Also, Wellman is credited with building Cisco's RTP site from groundbreaking in 1995 to nearly 2500 employees today.
"During his five years at Cisco, Selby has made many significant contributions both in terms of developing a strong strategic partnership with IBM and in managing the rapid growth of Cisco's RTP site," commented John Chambers, President and CEO of Cisco Systems, Inc. "I am personally very sorry to see Selby leave Cisco. He has, however, built a very talented team of executives who will continue to work closely with IBM and to lead Cisco to be among the most influential companies in history."
An information technology industry veteran, Wellman had over 25 years experience with FiberCom, Paradyne and IBM prior to joining Cisco. In Wellman has been very active in the RTP community serving on the Board of Directors of MCNC, the University of North Carolina Board of Visitors, the North Carolina State University College of Management Advisory Board, and is an Associate Member of Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society.
