AIR2LAN to deploy cost-efficient, high-speed wireless networks using technology from Cisco

JACKSON, MS - July 11, 2000 - AIR2LAN Inc, a license-exempt broadband wireless access service provider, today announced they have been designated a Cisco Powered Network provider. AIR2LAN also outlined a vision for rapidly deploying broadband wireless access (BWA) networks using the 5.7 GHz frequency band.

The Cisco Powered Network program represents a select group of providers that provision a significant proportion of their services with products from Cisco Systems, Inc. Cisco Powered Network members benefit from access to Cisco's technical networking expertise, joint marketing and sales opportunities. AIR2LAN will also participate in Cisco's "Jump Start" program, designed to assist companies in developing a quick and effective entry into the marketplace.

AIR2LAN Chairman and CEO Jai P. Bhagat said "The multitude of advantages provided by the Cisco Powered Network program will ensure rapid deployment into the national market."

AIR2LAN is deploying the Cisco WT2700 Wireless Technology Suite with Vector Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (VOFDM) technology, to offer broadband fixed wireless services to their subscribers. Using Cisco's VOFDM technology ensures a more reliable transmission signal to customer locations previously out of reach due to line-of-sight issues. VOFDM technology overcomes the issues of interference and multi-path fading that can occur in wireless environments, allowing for a more robust and reliable service.

"We are pleased that AIR2LAN has become a new member of the Cisco Powered Network program by offering broadband access services such as high-speed Internet, virtual private networks and voice applications based on Cisco platforms," said Kevin Outcalt, senior director of service provider marketing for Cisco.

"Utilizing the 5.7GHz U-NII band provides us with an instant DS3 backbone enabling us to rapidly and inexpensively deploy our network on a market-by-market basis," said Bhagat. "It also allows us to provide enhanced services such as VPNs and VOIP. Cisco's broadband fixed wireless technology is a key element to AIR2LAN's strategy to rapidly deploy high bandwidth access in markets where broadband is currently unattainable, and to offer an alternative to wireline broadband services."

AIR2LAN launched its service in Jackson in May 2000 and will complete its Dallas rollout before the end of 2000. Its customers include small and medium businesses, multi-tenant residential and business real estate developers, SOHOs and residential consumers. AIR2LAN plans to initiate service in all major US markets and establish the company as a major broadband access provider.

AIR2LAN provides advanced wireless high-speed, or "broadband" Internet access with download and upload speeds up to 50 times faster than standard dial-up modems available today. This allows users to communicate with the Internet much faster and speeds the transfer of large documents, streamed media such as MP3 and video files, and graphics-oriented applications such as interactive games, while facilitating more efficient e-commerce transactions.

AIR2LAN is privately held and is based in Jackson, MS.
