ATLANTA (June 7, 2000) - TalkingNets, the first telephony applications services provider (ASP), today announced that it is using equipment from Cisco Systems, Inc., the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet, to build out its nationwide IP-based wholesale local exchange network. Using this next-generation network, TalkingNets offers a wholesale telephony solution that helps Internet service providers (ISPs) and data local exchange carriers (DLECs) offer voice services to their new and existing business customers. In addition, TalkingNets has been designated as a Cisco Powered Network provider.

As a Cisco Powered Network member, TalkingNets is able to provide its customers with high-performance, customer focused, reliable and secure network services. Cisco's equipment will play a key role in helping TalkingNets deliver next-generation wholesale services that can be easily integrated with the existing IP-based data networks of ISPs and DLECs - many of which currently rely on high-quality Cisco routers and switches.

"Cisco shares our vision that the IP network is the foundation for delivering solutions that provide our ISP customers with a strategic advantage when competing against traditional voice telecom carriers," said John Philips, president of TalkingNets. "By combining Cisco's market leading technology with the unprecedented flexibility of the TalkingNets service platform, we can provide our carrier customers with a true next-generation network - one that allows them to cost-effectively offer never-before-imagined services to their customers."

"We are pleased to welcome TalkingNets to the Cisco Powered Network program because their membership ensures that their telecom carrier customers are provided telephony applications services built on Cisco's high performance and reliable infrastructure,"" said Kevin Outcalt senior director of service provider marketing for Cisco.

TalkingNets' participation in the Cisco Powered Network program demonstrates its ability to provide industry-leading technology solutions and services that are based on Cisco solutions. One key benefit of the program is TalkingNets' participation in joint marketing, technology sharing and selling activities with Cisco. This New World network enables both individuals and business communities to gain the benefits of leading-edge technologies and services.

About TalkingNets

TalkingNets, the first telephony ASP, provides a wholesale telephony solution that allows ISPs and data CLECs to provide advanced voice services to small and medium-sized business at prices significantly lower than those offered by traditional network providers. Using its true next-generation, server-based IP telecom architecture, TalkingNets allows its carrier partners to host a variety of enhanced applications for their business customers - applications that previously often could only be obtained by business that purchased and supported the hardware on their premises. By extending the computing hosting and server model into the telephony world, TalkingNets also allows its carrier partners to offer voice services quickly without developing significant voice expertise or building out additional network components.
