TORONTO, ON - April 11, 2000 - KPMG Consulting today announced the installation of 350 IP phones from Cisco Systems Canada in its new premises at WaterPark Place, 20 Bay Street in Toronto. This is the first KPMG Consulting office in the world to fully implement IP telephony. IP phones will be installed in all employees' offices, as well as in the mailroom, meeting rooms and for all courtesy phones. In addition, KPMG Consulting will extend their IP telephony network to connect with its six Internet Broadband Solution Centres located around the world to make collaboration between KPMG consultants, architects and developers worldwide, easier, faster and less expensive.

"IP telephony is real and it works. At KPMG Consulting, we recognize IP telephony is the future of communications and we are an early adopter of this technology," says Joe Mattell, vice president, Information, Communications and Entertainment Consulting Practice, KPMG Consulting. "To maximize our benefit from IP telephony, we shifted our paradigm from the Old World of simple telephones, to leveraging the New World of IP phones as business communications tools. We will use this new and open technology to develop communications applications for our business."

In the near term, KPMG Consulting will use IP telephony as a PBX replacement, as well as to enhance the firm's hoteling work environment and to support mobile employees. According to Mattell, there are a number of immediate "out of the box" benefits to IP telephony, including visual call waiting, the simplicity of setting up a conference bridge and the elimination of third-party conference services. Longer-term projects include the implementation of a unified messaging environment to enhance the productivity of KPMG staff by enabling them to check a single voice/email/fax mailbox for all communications from their internet telephone.

"KPMG Consulting is realizing the real business benefits of IP telephony," says Pierre-Paul Allard, general manager, Cisco Systems Canada. "There are a number of system-level and operational benefits to IP telephony, including easier integration with business application systems and reduced costs. Cisco Systems Canada is proud to work with such a forward thinking, innovative company as KPMG Consulting."
