KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia -- 11 April 2000 - Cisco Systems, Inc., the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet, has appointed Shaifubahrim Saleh as the new Country Manager for its Malaysia operations, as the company continues to provide best-in-class networking solutions to meet the needs of Malaysian corporations today and tomorrow.

Shaifubahrim was previously the Managing Director of Aironet Wireless Communications Inc., which was acquired recently by Cisco Systems. He has been in the technology industry for the last 18 years, where he gained vast experience in hardware, software and networking solutions, as well as Professional Services and Systems Integration.

"Shaifu is a very experienced technologist and leader and we are confident that he will be able to continue the excellent work of his predecessor, Ong Teng Beng, in growing our operations in Malaysia," said Louis J. McElwain, Managing Director, ASEAN, Cisco Systems. "Our growth in Malaysia has been nothing short of outstanding and Shaifu's challenge is to keep up that same pace while at the same time, continuing to provide the sort of quality customer service that Cisco is renowned for."

According to market researcher IDC Asia Pacific's latest industry reports, Cisco Systems grew its share of the Local Area Network (LAN) market from 25% in 1998 to 29% in 1999. Cisco's share of the Remote Access Server (RAS) market grew even more staggeringly from 4.28% in 1998 to 41.6% in 1999. IDC's LAN report tracks shipments of routers, switches, hubs and network interface cards while its RAS report tracks shipments of remote access equipment used by telecommunications and Internet service providers and large corporations.

Said Shaifubahrim: "We are recognized as the market leader in the data networking industry but our focus now is on the New World of IP-based integrated data, voice and video networks. We will continue to listen to our customers and provide them with best-in-class solutions as well as continue to deliver new products and technologies that will meet their needs in the future. Some of the most important growth areas for us include AVVID, our Architecture for Voice, Video and Integrated Data, wireless networking and the telecommunications and Internet service provider space."

Besides his vast experience in the IT industry, Shaifubahrim has made huge contributions to the country's IT development, including eight active years in the Association of the Computer Industry Malaysia (PIKOM), serving two terms as Chairman, and a Council Member of the National Information Technology Council (NITC). He was also recently invited to the Board of the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDC), the agency responsible for the Multimedia Super Corridor project (MSC).

Ong Teng Beng, the previous Malaysia Country Manager, has been promoted to a regional position in Cisco Systems' Service Provider Line of Business. As General Manager of Customer and Applications Alliances, Ong will have responsibility for developing strategic customer and applications partner alliances. Reporting to Gary Jackson, Vice President, Service Provider Line of Business, Asia Pacific, Ong will continue to be based in Kuala Lumpur.
