SAN JOSE, Calif., April 4, 2000 -- Cisco Systems, Inc., the leader in networking for the Internet, today announced the CiscoWorks2000 LAN Management Solution, a Web-based collection of applications that delivers flexibility, automation, and new capabilities for managing content-aware local area and campus networks. This set of integrated applications offers customers a single solution for managing both LAN switching and routing environments.
Today's enterprise LAN environments are business-critical systems. The LAN Management Solution enables users to better monitor and configure the LAN network. Administration is simplified by use of integrated Web-based applications that automate critical periodic tasks and that provide ready access to troubleshooting or network configuration tools. Now, network administrators have the tools they need to readily detect potential problems and assure continued delivery of critical network services.
"The LAN environment is an area of the network that demands comprehensive management capabilities to ensure network availability," said Bob Michie, Director, Network Services at Toys r Us. "Cisco's LAN Management Solution, with its new Campus Manager set of web-based switch network management applications, provide advanced Layer 2 device connectivity and management functionality. The addition of Layer 2/Layer3 path analysis tools helps me to more effectively manage my business's LAN environment"
Central to its role in addressing Layer 2/Layer 3 functionality, the LAN Management Solution provides advanced physical and logical discovery and display capabilities. Enhanced topology maps provide organizational views of over 1000 devices and their physical and logical connections. Layer 2 troubleshooting and problem resolution has been addressed through an automated process of identifying, on a per switch port level, the MAC, IP address and user login, of over 20, 000 end-stations.
This release addresses the growing needs of content aware networking, by introducing Content Flow Monitor, a new application for monitoring server-load balancing of Web-hosted applications. The LAN Management Solution can monitor the performance of Cisco's content delivery devices, such as Local Director and Cisco 7200 routers, and ensure that as traffic to the server fluctuates, critical business applications and services are delivered efficiently.
"LAN administrators want to ensure that devices and links are operational while also focusing on reliable content delivery and overall system performance," said Jim Turner, Director of Marketing at Cisco Systems. " The LAN Management Solution delivers a comprehensive set of tools that facilitate the transition to a more content-aware network management model. It provides both an operationally-focused solution for effective day-to-day management, and tools designed for flexibility and scalability managers need as their networks grow and evolve."
The LAN Management Solution includes the following components:
Campus Manager: A suite of new web-based applications for the switched campus network environment Campus Manager provides Layer 2 device discovery and mapping, Layer 2 connectivity analysis,VLAN/LANE and ATM configuration services, and end-station tracking capabilities.
Content Flow Monitor: Provides the performance-monitoring application for Cisco server load-balancing devices.
TrafficDirector: A comprehensive network traffic monitoring and troubleshooting application providing early detection of switched network issues. Also supports RMON traffic monitoring and Cisco's family of LAN and WAN probes.
Resource Manager Essentials: A set of network device management and administration tools providing network device configuration, inventory, and network availability and analysis.
CiscoView 5.0: Web-based version of Cisco's graphical device management application enables network managers to access real-time device status and operational and configuration functions.
CiscoWorks2000 Management Server: Consolidates key management services and provides a flexible web-based desktop that simplifies the secure web integration of third party and other Cisco management tools.
Pricing and availability
The LAN Management solution will be available in early April for $14,995 USD. It is designed to complement other products in the CiscoWorks2000 family.
