SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 2, 2000 - Cisco Systems, Inc. today announced that James Richardson will be senior vice president of the enterprise line of business as of June 1. He'll also immediately assume responsibility for the Advanced Technology Group, comprised of the former operations of recent acquisitions Amteva, Geotel and Webline.
"We're fortunate to have someone as well-suited as James to tackle this exciting challenge. James is a ten-year Cisco veteran who has a proven record of success and brings a wealth of global operations experience to this crucial growth area for the company," said CEO and President John T. Chambers.
In his most recent role, Richardson spent three years as Cisco's Europe-Middle East-Africa president, guiding the European team through a period of tremendous growth and success. As vice president of North American operations, he led the company's largest sales force during a period when revenues tripled. Prior to that, he ran operations in the Latin America and the Pacific Rim and launched Cisco's Canadian operation.
Senior Vice President Mario Mazzola, who guided Cisco's remarkable growth in the enterprise market, announced today that he's departing the company as of June 1. Under his leadership, the enterprise line of business was created in 1997 and Cisco became the leader in networking for the enterprise market.
"Mario's leadership has been instrumental to Cisco's success over the last seven years and he'll be sorely missed," said Chambers. "Because of the efforts of Mario and his world-class team, our enterprise line of business accounts for over half of our business."
"During the transition, James and Mario will work closely together to ensure that this change positively impacts our enterprise team and customers. One of Cisco's greatest strengths is our ability to adapt quickly to change and I truly believe that this is what makes us a market and industry leader," added Chambers.
