SINGAPORE-- 5 January 2000 -- Cisco Systems, Inc., the worldwide leader innetworking for the Internet, is expanding its Singapore operations witha new executive to head Southeast Asia and dedicated teams for ServiceProvider, Enterprise and Small and Medium Business customers in thecountry.
Cisco's market share in Singapore according toindustry analyst, IDC Asia Pacific, has continued to grow. In the LocalArea Network market, which includes Routers, Switches, Hubs and NICs,the company has a 34% market share in the first three quarters of 1999,up from 23% for the whole of 1998. In the Remote Access Server market,Cisco grew its revenues by 139 per cent year-on-year in the first halfof 1999, reported IDC Asia Pacific.
To continue the tremendous pace of growth in Singapore, Cisco has put in place a new management team:
- LouMcElwain, Managing Director of ASEAN, will look after Cisco'soperations in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand andVietnam.
- Bill Chang has been promoted to Managing Director of Singapore and heads a team of sales, marketing, and consulting engineers.
- PuaYeow Khoon, Director of Service Provider Market, joined the companyrecently from IBM to look after Cisco's telco and ISP customers such asSingapore Telecom, Starhub, Singnet, Pacific Internet and StarhubInternet.
- Ken Tan, Director of Enterprise Market, isresponsible for Cisco's large corporate customers in the banking,retail, healthcare, manufacturing, education and public sectors.
- ChooYuh-Joo has been promoted to Director of Channels and is tasked tocontinue building Cisco's network of distributors, systems integrationpartners and resellers especially in the Small and Medium Businesssegment.
- Barney Lau, Director of Marketing, joinedCisco recently from Lucent Technologies, and will drive the company'smarketing strategies for the three target markets - Service Provider,Enterprise and Small and Medium Business.

McElwain reportsdirectly to Todd Abbott, Vice President of Cisco's Asia Operations, whocontinues to be based in Singapore where he directs Cisco's business inSoutheast Asia, India, Hong Kong, Korea and Taiwan. Also in Singaporeare the heads for the Service Provider and Small and Medium BusinessLines of Business, Finance, Human Resources, Marketing and CustomerAdvocacy.
