HERNDON, VA., Nov. 29, 1999 - PSINet Inc. (NASDAQ: PSIX), the Internet Super Carrier, and Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CSCO), the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet, today announced that PSINet Inc. has expanded its participation in the Cisco Powered Network program to include full-time, maximum-performance dedicated and shared network Internet access services. PSINet's business-grade wireless access service was certified earlier this year.
The two companies are teaming to offer reliable, secure and high-performance dedicated Internet access services. The relationship highlights the focus of both companies in using intelligent broadband IP networking to deliver the industry's leading network-based applications to corporate and government customers.
Under the Cisco Powered Network Program, PSINet will include in its full service offerings to commercial end users dedicated, shared, and wireless access services based on the market-leading Cisco 12000 series Gigabit Switch Router (GSR). PSINet's participation in the Cisco Powered Network program demonstrates its ability and commitment to provide superior Internet services, reliability, and innovation to its customers.
"Cisco shares our vision that the IP network is the foundation for delivering intelligent business solutions, thus providing our customers with strategic competitive advantages," said William Opet, president of PSINet's Corporate Network Services. "By working with the worldwide leader in networking, the Internet services we offer to our customers will lead the industry in reliability, performance and innovation. In addition, the Cisco distribution channel of value-added resellers around the globe represent an opportunity for PSINet to accelerate growth through the sale of Cisco-certified equipment and PSINet services."
PSINet provides full-time, maximum-performance dedicated and shared network internet access services from 128Kbps to 10.5 Mbps, with options for managing application performance, security, and more. Unlike other dedicated services that merely provide communal access to the Internet, PSINet's services can directly connect a customer's local area network to PSINet's powerful network via a dedicated, point-to-point circuit. This provides superior performance for mission-critical applications, such as customer support, document management, research, intranets, VPNs (virtual private networks), and WANs (wide area networks).
Larry Lang, vice president of marketing of Cisco's Service Provider line of business, said, "We are excited about PSINet's expanded participation in the Cisco Powered Network program with the addition of full-time dedicated and shared network Internet access services. This expansion is a cornerstone of PSINet's continued commitment to providing customers with the highest level of network interoperability and performance as well as differentiated New World services."
The expansion of PSINet's participation in the Cisco Powered Network program builds on PSINet and Cisco's relationship to build and expand PSINet's dial-up services and PSIVoice -PSINet's Internet voice service, to quickly create the premier, global Internet network.
