SAN JOSE, Calif. -- October 22, 1999 -- Cisco Systems, Inc. today announced that its 7200 Series multifunction router family has surpassed the 50,000 unit shipment milestone. Demand for the Cisco 7200 is driven by its high-performance wide area network (WAN) edge connectivity capabilities, which allow both service provider and enterprise customers to cost-effectively deploy New World applications such as multiservice networking and virtual private networks (VPNs).

Enhanced Price/Performance Features for Intelligent Network Services
Now featured on the Cisco 7200 series routers are the NPE-175 and NPE-225-two new network processing engines that enhance price/performance characteristics of the router platform, providing intelligent network services ideal for high-performance WAN-edge applications. The NPE-225 and NPE-175 are based on a new modular, flexible and highly-scalable architecture for rich performance improvement at low prices. These new processing engines, combined with the Cisco 7204VXR and Cisco 7206VXR chassis with integrated multiservice interchange (MIX), enable flexible configurations for a variety of VPN and multiservice applications.
