Washington, DC . -- August 17, 1999 -- Cisco Systems, the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet, announced today that Bruce Mehlman and Kent Jenkins are joining its D.C. office.
Mehlman, who will serve as Assistant Washington Representative and Policy Counsel, is a well-respected policy adviser with extensive political, legislative and legal experience. As General Counsel and Policy Director for the House Republican Conference, he focused on high-tech issues. He also served as General Counsel for the National Republican Congressional Committee and as a Washington attorney.
Jenkins, who will manage Cisco's Washington media relations, is a highly respected ex-journalist who joined Burson Marsteller's D.C. office in 1998 after more than a decade as a top reporter with the Washington Post and US News & World Report.
"Kent brings an extraordinary level of expertise to Cisco about how the press operates and will be invaluable as Cisco projects its message to Washington," said Dan Scheinman, Senior Vice President for Governmental Affairs and General Counsel.

Cisco Systems opened a D.C. office in early 1998. Michael Timmeny is Washington Representative and is the point-man on governmental issues. Mehlman will assist him.
Jenkins will replace Tom Galvin, who is relocating to Cisco's San Jose offices next year.
