CapRock Communications, Cisco Systems Sign Service Provider Alliance

Companies Combine Resources to Increase Business Opportunities in the outhwestern U.S.

DALLAS, Texas. - August 2, 1999 - CapRock Communications, Corp. (NASDAQ:CPRK), a Southwestern facilities-based integrated communications provider (ICP), has become the newest member of Cisco Systems Inc.'s (NASDAQ: CSCO) Service Provider Alliance program, joining a select group of the world's top tier communications companies.

Cisco's Alliance program is designed to help service provider customers develop innovative approaches to service creation, market new services and define technical requirements for future products. Through joint marketing, CapRock and Cisco, the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet, will join resources to develop data products and solutions for small to medium-sized businesses based in the Southwestern U.S. with an additional focus on enterprise customers such as those in oil and gas, insurance, medical, educational, financial and transportation markets.

CapRock was recently certified for the Cisco Powered Network (CPN) program. This certification communicates to CapRock's customers that CapRock services deliver the performance required for today's integrated communications applications.

The 6,100-mile six-state fiber network will enable carriers, business and residential customers in the Southwestern U.S. to communicate via New World integrated data, voice, video and Internet access services at higher speeds and lower costs. CapRock's high-performance Cisco Powered Network demonstrates CapRock's emphasis on and ability to provide industry-leading technology and services, thereby creating a New World communications infrastructure on which their customers can rely.
