SAN JOSE, Calif. -- May 19, 1999 -- The Society of Cable TelecommunicationsEngineers (SCTE), Inc. and Cisco Systems, Inc. today announced that they areteaming to deliver data networking education to the cable industry.
The SCTE/Cisco program will help cable operators and Multiple System Operators (MSOs) educate their technicians quickly, easily and inexpensively so they can deploy, manage, and support new data and digital service rollouts. Cisco, the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet, will package a tailoredstandards-based seminar program for the cable industry similar to what iscurrently used by Cisco to train leading service providers worldwide. Withthese educational seminars, cable operators and MSO staff will receive anintroduction to data networking on Hybrid-Fiber Coaxial (HFC) facilities,combining practical discussions of key topics with a review of current bestpractices in carrier-class data network operations.
"As the cable industry moves to data networking solutions for their customers,SCTE is looking for ways to provide the training for the technicians who willdeploy those services," said Alan Babcock, director of Training and Developmentat SCTE. "Cisco is one of the industry leaders that has stepped forward tohelp SCTE provide this very timely training. These classes will also assistcable staff prepare for BCT/E Category V certification."

The SCTE/Cisco seminar series will kick off on July 13, 1999, and will occur inthe following cities across the United States and Canada:
