WARSAW, Poland -- April 21, 1999 -- During Infosystem fair held in Poznan on April 13th - 16th, Cisco Systems was awarded with the Poznan International Fair Gold Medal for its "Voice over IP" solution, enabling voice and multimedia transfer in data networks. The same technologies, leveraging Internet Protocol popularity and new Quality of Service mechanisms and traffic prioritization also enable business critical applications. "Voice over IP" has also been distincted by the Committee of Scientific Research, who organized Polman, the specialist networking exhibition accompanying Infosystem fair.
"The fact, that we were awarded with two distinct awards during the same event proves that the Polish market is interested in modern data and telecommunications solutions," said Jacek Murawski, the country manager of Cisco Systems Poland. "As a country we now have a chance to leapfrog Western countries, which have invested heavily in telecommunications equipment and are now technologically locked in the Old World circuit switching technologies. Implementing the open, IP-based networks for voice transmission gives both service providers and businesses enormous competitive advantage, which may decide not only on their economical success, but on their survival in today's global economy."
Cisco Systems, which in Poland sells through partners, exhibited "Voice over IP" solution in co-operation with its authorized reseller, Telmax.

Voice over IP is a set of software leveraging Cisco IOS. software operating system, hardware and additional modules enabling voice and video transmission in the data networks using Internet Protocol. These capabilities are built-in in all new Cisco switches and routers using Cisco IOS release 12.0 software.
