Oracle Applications Will Gain Performance Protection Through CiscoAssure

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- April 19, 1999 -- Cisco Systems, Inc. today announced from the Oracle Application User Group Spring Conference collaboration with Oracle Corporation to optimize deployment of CiscoAssure quality of service (QoS) for Oracle applications.

"The joint efforts of Oracle and Cisco will give our customers the ability to ensure that business-critical Oracle transactions are consistently delivered with priority across enterprise networks, especially during periods of congestion," said Cliff Godwin, vice president of applications technologies group for Oracle. "Our technical teams have validated the numerous benefits of using policy-based networking through joint systems tests."

This collaboration will deliver recommended practices including specific Oracle policy templates, implementation guidelines and test reports. This allows the deployment of QoS for important Oracle Applications Release 11, such as Oracle Financials. By utilizing the new tools and installing Cisco QoS Policy Manager, the customer can protect transactions from degradation caused by bursts of other types of traffic. The implementation of this solution by mutual customers is slated to be supported by the cross-training of both companies' organizations.

"CiscoAssure will allow us to fully utilize the intelligent network infrastructure we have created with Cisco products. Through the use of the Cisco QoS Policy Manager, we'll be able to simplify QoS policy administration," said Paulo M. De Oliveira, head of networking (UK) at ABN AMRO Bank, in London, United Kingdom. "The work being done by Cisco and Oracle will also allow us to prioritize our mission-critical Oracle applications for greater application response times on our WAN links."

"We are prepared to assist our clients in deploying Oracle applications utilizing CiscoAssure policy networking," said Michael Herzog, partner in charge of Oracle Solutions for KPMG LLP. "In addition to optimizing Oracle applications online performance, these technologies and best practices can allow us to confidently expedite roll-out of new applications from pilot to production by effectively managing network resources."

Value of Cisco Network for Oracle

Cisco intelligent networks provide unprecedented policy-based QoS support for Oracle applications. Cisco provides the depth of QoS capabilities needed, and the breadth of products required for end-to-end deployment in enterprise scale networks. Its application-aware networking capabilities can distinguish the business critical Oracle transactions that require priority service. Additionally, CiscoAssure Policy Networking provides policy-based management of network-wide QoS services. The Cisco QoS Policy Manager completes delivery of the second phase of the CiscoAssure initiative. Cisco Network Registrar supplies IP name and address registration with directory integration; Cisco IOS. software version 12.0 offers standards-based, feature-rich QoS services in a single integrated software release; Cisco router platforms and Cisco Catalyst. 5000/5500, 6000/6500 and 8500 family switches now have proven QoS, security, and voice features; Cisco Security Manager provides policy-based configuration of security services; and Cisco CallManager call routing and voice services in campus networks.
