RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. -- April 26, 1999 -- Cisco Systems, Inc., today has extended its Web-based management tools to manage mainframe-based Systems Network Architecture (SNA) sessions. Cisco's SNA View version 2.0 joins the CiscoWorks 2000 family to provide the most comprehensive management for mixed SNA and Internet Protocol (IP) environments.
SNA View is the only network management product that provides end-to-end views of SNA sessions in mixed protocol environments. It integrates with other network management tools including IBM's NetView, CiscoView, CiscoWorks2000 and Cisco TN3270 Monitor for quick problem resolution.
SNA View gathers and displays information on Web interfaces about traditional subarea SNA sessions including SNA sessions using Data-Link Switching (DLSw), Advanced Peer-to-Peer Networking (APPN) and remote source-route bridging (RSRB) as well as TN3270 sessions using Cisco's TN3270 Server.
"SNA View offers a tremendous advantage for help desk operators and network administrators," said Jim Metzler, president of The Metzler Group. "It eliminates the guesswork in trying to identifying the location of the network outage. By integrating with existing network management tools, problems are resolved quickly, saving time and money."
Search Filters and End-to-End Session Display Speeds Problem Resolution
SNA View is designed for help desk managers and network administrators. Help desk operators can use its basic search filter to identify client sessions based on whatever information the client can provide (i.e., physical unit name, logical unit name, MAC Address or IP Address). Network administrators can take advantage of an advanced search filter to further pinpoint the problem based on the status of a network device or protocol.SNA View searches information gathered from multiple Virtual Telecommunications Access Method (VTAM)s, the router network and Cisco's TN3270 Servers and returns a list of matching sessions. Network managers can navigate the sessions listed to view connectivity information. SNA View will also pinpoint the likely cause of a session outage.
Once the session connectivity is identified, the user can resolve a network problem through SNA View's integration with other management tools, increasing availability.
"SNA View is designed to overcome the help desk manager's biggest issue in managing SNA sessions, pinpointing the source of the problem," said Ken Kauffmann, product manager, InterWorks Business Division for Cisco. "SNA View is powerful because equips the operator with the right information to get the job done quickly. It's easy to use and leverages existing investment in SNA management tools."
