Amteva to Provide Application Software for Cisco's Unified Communications Initiative

RICHMOND, VA -- April 5, 1999 -- Amteva Technologies, Inc., the leader in IP-based Unified Messaging, today announced it has entered into a partnership with Cisco Systems, the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet. Under a joint development and marketing agreement, the two organizations are integrating Amteva's Unified Messaging Plus and Cisco's remote access servers as part of Cisco's new Unified Communications strategy that was unveiled today see related Cisco Unified Communications press release). Cisco Unified Communications delivers new revenue opportunities to service providers by consolidating voice, e-mail and fax communications within an IP infrastructure independent of location, time or device. Amteva's application software, Unified Messaging Plus, is an enhanced, IP-based software solution that gives subscribers the ability to receive voice mail, e-mail and fax messages using a single mailbox that can be accessed via the phone or at the desktop. Single number reach services allow subscribers to have a single telephone number that can be used to locate them at home, in the office or on a mobile phone. Amteva's Unified Messaging Plus is built on a standards-based services platform designed to carrier-class specifications, providing scalability to support millions of subscribers.

"We were impressed with Amteva's software because its design adheres to Internet Protocol standards, allowing it to interoperate with other communications components," said Roland Acra, general manager, remote access business unit of Cisco. "Amteva's UM Plus complements our Unified Communications strategy by supporting New World services with Open Packet Telephony solutions."

According to Dean Dodrill, President and CEO of Amteva, "With solutions from Amteva and Cisco, Service Providers can combine the power of the PC and the Internet with the portability and availability of the telephone. Cisco's Unified Communications initiative will fundamentally change the way people communicate."
