SAN JOSE, Calif. -- March 30, 1999 -- Cisco Systems, Inc. and Cisco value added reseller (VAR) partner Simplified Telesys, a leading developer of advanced data/voice call-control software for network operators, today announced several customer wins for Simplified's innovative voice solutions built on the Cisco VCO./4K open programmable switching platform. Services include the industry's first centralized solution for signaling system 7 (SS7) and control of multiple, distributed switches, a Java-based management system, and a host of enhanced voice services.
The Simplified/Cisco solution is being deployed at a variety of service providers, including Network Enhanced Telecom (NET), a Texas-based telecommunications company focused on providing prepaid services as a service bureau, RDST Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: RDST), a provider of prepaid phone cards and other services, and Ultimate Communications, Inc. (UCI), a facilities-based telecommunications company in Houston, Texas.
NET selected the Simplified/Cisco solution for centralized SS7 and control of multiple, distributed switches utilizing the highly scalable CiscoVCO/4K open programmable switch. Through the use of one, centrally located host and SS7 software module, NET no longer requires SS7 link sets or host controllers at every site, drastically reducing equipment and network costs, simplifying deployment, maintenance, and upgrades.
The Simplified/Cisco solution provides carriers with a flexible, scalable switching system that interfaces to all central office (CO) environments, it includes SS7 compatibility, full billing and alarm capability, and provides Web-based management of all operations. This turnkey solution utilizes the Cisco VCO/4K and full line of routers, voice over IP (VoIP) and ATM products, and is, by far, the most scalable solution of its kind on the market today; single host can control literally hundreds of thousands of ports.
NET, according to company president Pete Pattullo, has built a world class enhanced services network utilizing a distributed architecture. "In 18 months, we went from startup to 120 million minutes per month. This would not have been possible without the partnership we have with Cisco/Simplified."
Simplified also provides a large range of innovative enhanced services including VoIP, local number portability (LNP), remote customer service, and point of sale.
"Like most companies searching for a platform provider, we wanted versatility of applications, and feature-rich functionality, including a Web-based interface," says Debbie Burgess, COO and vice president of RDST Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: RDST). "With Simplified and Cisco we found partners who were willing to listen to our expectations, and meet them."
Ultimate Communications, Inc. (UCI), a facilities-based telecommunications company in Houston, Texas, uses Simplified's Web-based application to automate and centralize the management of report and billing systems and customer service activities. "With Simplified's Java-based management, we can offer our customers the ability to manage and control their business applications in real time from anywhere on the web," says Claudio R. Roman, UCI president. "The scalability of these products gives UCI the security and confidence to look forward to sustained growth."
"The openness of Cisco voice products allow application development partners such as Simplified to design and deploy advanced, new-generation solutions that can evolve as a service provider's needs change," said James Cashiola, president of Simplified. "The scalability of products like the VCO/4K make Cisco the perfect match for our solution."
Cisco VCO/4K
The VCO/4K switch enables service providers worldwide to build scalable, cost-effective networks that support the rapid deployment of wireline and wireless voice services. It integrates seamlessly into existing telecommunication infrastructures to deliver enhanced voice services for the PSTN and for New World, packet-based networks."Today's service providers need the ability to quickly add revenue-generating services as they move to New World, packet-based networks," said Paul Sanchirico, director of marketing for the enhanced services and migration business unit for Cisco Systems. "The openness and scalability of Cisco voice products allow application development partners such as Simplified to design and deploy advanced, New World, solutions that can evolve as service provider's needs change."
The open telephony architecture of the VCO/4K has allowed more than 40 industry-leading software developers to create a broad selection of service-enabling applications. This rich and broad portfolio makes rapid deployment of carrier-class enhanced voice services possible.
