SAN JOSE, Calif. -- March 1, 1999 -- Cisco Systems, the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet, today extended its high-performance Local Area Network (LAN) offering with two new products, the Cisco 1548M Micro Switch 10/100 and the Cisco 1538 Series Micro Hub 10/100. Ideal for small and growing businesses and remote branch offices, these new low-density, manageable and stackable 10/100 autosensing products offer the most cost-effective and powerful management options in their class.
The new Cisco 1548 Series Micro Switch and Cisco 1538 Series Micro Hub offer rich feature sets, including a Web-based management interface common to the Catalyst 2900 XL Series and the Catalyst 1900 switching products. The Web-based management tool allows network managers to manage the switch or hub from anywhere on the Internet using a standard Web browser.
"With more and more small and growing businesses investing in 10/100 autosensing Network Interface Cards, the Cisco Micro Switch and Micro Hub offer our clients a cost-effective means for 10 Mbps desktop connectivity and 100 Mbps server connections," said Joe Dicsv, Internetworking Business Manager at DIS Research, a Cisco Premier Reseller. "Combined with compelling price/performance and Cisco's embedded management, the new Micro Switch and Micro Hub are an easy sell to this market space."
Both the Cisco Micro Switch and Cisco Micro Hub are part of the Cisco Networked Office stack, a complete networking solution for small and growing businesses and branch offices of larger companies. The affordably priced suite, consisting of stackable desktop products and easy-to-use configuration software, delivers secure Internet access, high-performance local-area networking and flexible remote access.
Flexible, Cost-Effective Fast Ethernet HubThe Cisco 1538 Series Micro Hub 10/100, available in managed (1538M) and manageable (1538) configurations, provides flexible 10/100 autosensing Fast Ethernet desktop connectivity. The eight-port 10BaseT/100BaseTX autosensing hub provides 100 Mbps peak aggregate throughput, up to ten times the performance of traditional Ethernet hubs, giving users faster desktop and server connectivity. With 10/100 autosensing capability on all ports and an internal bridge for easy connectivity between 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps, the Micro Hub enables users to seamlessly migrate from legacy 10BaseT to 100BaseTX networks. In addition, integrated stacking ports allow customers to use each product as a standalone hub or to scale the workgroup size up to 32 ports by creating a Micro Hub 10/100 stack.
The Cisco 1538M Micro Hub 10/100 ships with embedded management functionality and does not require a customer to purchase additional management modules. This hub can provide management to a stack of up to four Cisco 1538 Micro Hubs 10/100, minimizing the cost of management on a per user basis.
Powerful Small Business SwitchThe Cisco 1548 Series Micro Switch 10/100 is a high-performance autosensing Fast Ethernet switch for creating high-performance LANs. For growing companies whose bandwidth requirements have outgrown their legacy 10BaseT networks, the eight-port 1548M (managed) and Cisco 1548U (unmanaged) switches offer dedicated 10/100 autosensing Fast Ethernet connections, ideal for the fast exchange of data between users and workgroups.
The Cisco 1548M Micro Switch 10/100 supports four port-based VLANs for enhanced performance, management and security. And, like the Cisco 1538 Series Micro Hub 10/100, the Micro Switch ships with embedded management and does not require purchase of additional management modules or software.
Lifetime WarrantyEmphasizing Cisco's commitment to product reliability, the new Cisco 1548 Series Micro Switch 10/100 and 1538 Series Micro Hub 10/100 are covered by a new limited lifetime warranty. With this new warranty coverage, demonstrating a high level of confidence in product quality, Cisco delivers support for as long as the customer owns the product.
Pricing and AvailabilityThe new Micro Switch and Micro Hub are available now with U.S. list prices starting at $495 for the Cisco 1538 Series Micro Hub 10/100 and $995 for the Cisco 1548 Series Micro Switch 10/100.
