What:

Cisco Systems, Inc., the leading networking vendor, helps customers become network ready for Internet-powered healthcare solutions. Cisco's booth, #910, will showcase its network foundation powering solutions from leading health care application providers at the1999 Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) show in Atlanta, Georgia.

  • Acuson-Demo of WebPro will enable viewing of ultrasound images over the Web that can also be used for diagnostic purposes.

  • GE Medical Systems-Picture Archival Communication Systems (PACS) demo will depict the benefits of filmless imaging running on the recently introduced PathSpeed NT workstation.

  • Kinetra-Demo of Odysent application will allow physicians on the network to receive "push" information via the Internet.

  • NEC-Demonstration of network convergence of NEC monitor/phone/server/video over any technology such as IP, ATM, or frame relay.

  • SMS-Demo of NOVIUS, integrated enterprise clinical and financial applications; HealthAnswers, turnkey suite of Internet/intranet applications for consumers and health professionals; and Net Access, a secure environment for accessing and organizing patient clinical data.

Booth attendees will also be eligible for a drawing in which the grand prize is FREE consulting services from First Consulting Group, a leading healthcare consulting organization, on how to design a health care network that takes advantage of the Internet and web-based technologies.

In addition, Cisco Systems' Rebecca Munn will moderate a panel discussion, "How to Convince Your CEO to Invest in IT," at the Georgia World Congress Center on Tuesday, February 23. The panel is 8 to 9:50 a.m., Room 304/305.

Panelists will describe what they did to be successful with their CEOs in such areas as return on investment, patient care and IT innovation. They include: Mary Finlay, CIO of Brigham & Women's Hospital; Suzanne Carter, CIO of North Bronx Healthcare Network and Tim Martin, CIO of University of Washington Medical Center. All are recipients of the 1998 Innovation in Healthcare IT Awards.
