Conectiv Communications Achieves Cisco Powered Network Status
NEWARK, Delaware -- November 17, 1998 -- Cisco Systems, Inc. and Conectiv Communications, Inc. today announced that they have established an alliance to further the overall growth of the advanced services market and high-speed data communications. As part of the agreement, the two companies will work together to deliver Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) to Conectiv Communications' customers in Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland.
The Cisco-Conectiv Communications alliance leverages Cisco's leadership in the networking market and Conectiv Communications' strength in the Mid-Atlantic region.
"Our alliance with Cisco gives us a speed-to-market edge as one of the first major CLEC providers of DSL access to businesses and consumers throughout the Mid-Atlantic region," said Jody Watts, vice president of marketing at Conectiv Communications. The company expects to deploy DSL service during the first quarter of 1999.
Conectiv Communications will pilot DSL service in northern Delaware using a cutting-edge combination of end-to-end DSL networking equipment manufactured by Cisco. The pilot will trial central office equipment, including the Cisco 6100 series advanced DSL access multiplexer, the Cisco 6400 series universal access concentrator and the Cisco 6510 Service Selection Gateway (SSG), and customer premise equipment, including the Cisco 675 SOHO/telecommuter ADSL router and the Cisco 605 personal PCI ADSL modem.
By deploying Cisco equipment end-to-end and meeting stringent network quality measurements for its DSL service, Conectiv Communications qualifies as a Cisco Powered Network provider. Cisco Powered Network status highlights the company's focus on using intelligent broadband IP networking to deliver enhanced connectivity and network-based applications to its customers. For both residential and business customers, DSL technology means faster access to the Internet.
"This alliance, and our new status as a Cisco Powered Network, further strengthen our position as a major provider of competitive bundled local and long distance voice and data services," said Jeff Allen, executive vice president of Conectiv Communications.
"Establishing this alliance with a forward-thinking CLEC like Conectiv Communications furthers Cisco's commitment to ushering in the New World communications infrastructure," said David Gudmundson, vice president and general manager of DSL and Systems Software Business Unit at Cisco. "In this New World, new business opportunities abound for service providers like Conectiv Communications that have the vision to aggressively capture the surging demand for integrated voice and data services over IP networks."
