IP+ATM Solutions Deliver Advanced Networking to Customers in Chinese Province


SAN JOSE, Calif. -- October 5, 1998 -- Cisco Systems, Inc. today announced that the Henan Province Post & Telecommunications Administration has selected Cisco's end-to-end solutions to build the China Henan Province Broadband Service Data Network, a multimedia infrastructure that will provide data, voice and video services to 100,000 users in the province.

The Henan Broadband Service Data Network forms the core of China's Multimedia Service Network (known as the "169 Network" in China), that will be one of the largest multiservice networks in the world.

Henan PTA is building an 18-site Tag Switched network that will be deployed in regional-post telecommunications sites and in its capital city in Zhengzhou. Cisco's end-to-end solution includes the BPX 8650 Multiservice Switch, the Cisco MC3810 Multiservice Access Concentrator and the Cisco 6200 Series Advanced DSL Access Multiplexer. Cisco's MPLS-based Tag Switching on the BPX. 8650 switch brings the application richness of Cisco IOS. software to a multiservice ATM environment. Tag Switching integrates IP and ATM within the same networking environment, allowing service providers such as Henan PTA to maximize return on investment with multiple revenue streams on a single platform. Service providers can now deliver high-revenue services such as Frame Relay, SNA, leased-line and Internet dial access while deploying advanced IP services, including virtual private networks (VPNs), managed intranet and extranet solutions, Voice over IP (VoIP), video over IP, Web hosting and electronic commerce applications.
