Cisco's Application-Aware Network Expands Scope of Network Services Implemented



SAN JOSE, Calif. -- August 27, 1998 -- Cisco Systems, Inc. today announced the University of Chicago Hospitals and Health System, a premier Midwest healthcare provider, has selected Cisco as its strategic supplier for infrastructure solutions and network management. Deploying network services enabled by Cisco IOS. software, the Hospitals' facilities will offer innovative applications such as picture archive and communication systems (PACS) for all patients within the system.

The University of Chicago Hospitals and Health System selected Cisco equipment to deliver advanced health care technology solutions that improve and expand health care delivery while efficiently managing the cost of that delivery. Optimizing networked applications requires seamless integration and reliability offered today by Cisco solutions. A major health management objective is to improve the quality of care while simultaneously increasing productivity. The inherent flexibility provided by a Cisco infrastructure allows for the optimal delivery of the networked application.

Equipment is expected to include a broad range of Catalyst. 5000/5500 enterprise LAN switches, Cisco Lightstream. 1010 ATM switches, Catalyst 2900 series LAN switches, and Cisco network management tools including CiscoWorks for Switched Internetworks.

The University of Chicago Hospitals and Health System has also selected DAOU Systems to provide network management and integration services. DAOU, a certified Cisco reseller, provides information technology (IT) solutions and services to the health care industry. DAOU will provide telecommunications consulting on call centers in addition to the infrastructure services for the University Hospitals.
