RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC -- August 12, 1998 -- Cisco Systems, Inc. today announced that it has purchased additional land in Research Triangle Park (RTP), North Carolina, that could accommodate nearly 2,000 more employees in future years.
The company has purchased 70.5 acres at Davis Drive, bringing its totalland to more than 170 acres, at Davis Drive and Kit Creek Road, south ofInterstate Highway 40. Cisco purchased the land for the ability to grow inRTP. The company has no immediate plans for construction on this site.
"Research Triangle Park, with its top talent in telecommunications andnetworking, has been an excellent location for Cisco's East Coastheadquarters," said Selby Wellman, senior vice president of Cisco'sInterWorks Business Unit, which is based in RTP. "This land acquisitionis one of the many steps we are taking to prepare for our continued growthand we're very optimistic for the future."
Cisco estimates that the new sites could hold three buildings and about2,000 employees. Cisco currently employs approximately 820 employees inRTP, out of a worldwide total of about 14,800.
Cisco currently has four buildings on its RTP campus. The company beganoccupying its fourth building on Aug. 1, 1998. Two additional buildingsare currently under construction so that Cisco can accommodate 2,000employees in RTP by the year 2000.
