OKLAHOMA CITY, OK -- June 10, 1998 -- Logix Communications Corporation, an integrated communications provider, and Cisco Systems, Inc., the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet, today announced that they are combining efforts to offer value-added Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), Frame Relay and Internet services to business customers throughout the southwestern United States.
Logix is building an advanced Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) backbone using BPX. 8600 series wide-area switches, that will deliver enhanced access services such as Frame Relay, IP, Video, and xDSL transport services. Cisco's solutions enable Logix to deliver all of these services and voice across a single multiservice dedicated connection that lowers customer's telecommunications costs.
"We're pleased to work with Cisco to offer advanced data-networking solutions," said William J. Hoffman, chief operating officer of Logix Communications. "With the combination of Logix's network and Cisco's technology, we will be able to offer value-added, innovative, cost-effective networks, providing our customers with strategic competitive advantages."
Logix will provide services based on Cisco equipment and software through the Cisco Powered Network Program. A Cisco Powered Network is recognized for quality of service, reliability, and high-performance. Logix's participation in the program demonstrates its ability to provide industry-leading communication services and solutions.
"Cisco's high-performance, reliable networking solutions enable service providers such as Logix Communications to offer differentiated services," said Don Listwin, executive vice president of Cisco's Service Provider Line of Business. "Logix's relationship with Cisco will enable Logix customers to be confident that their service provider will deliver a high level of network interoperability and performance, as well as new, advanced and value-added services."
Cisco designed the BPX 8600 series wide-area switch to deliver IP+ATM services with up to 19.2 Gbps switching capacity. With the integration of Cisco IOS(R) software, the BPX 8600 switch becomes the first carrier-class ATM switch to deliver IP services through Tag Switching. Tag Switching represents the industry's first end-to-end implementation of MPLS, giving service providers the privacy characteristics and quality-of-service (QoS) benefits of ATM and the universal connectivity of IP.
