SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- June 15, 1998 -- First-tier national Internetcarrier, DIGEX, an Intermedia Communications Company (NASDAQ: ICIX) todayannounced that it will provide high-speed Internet connectivity and Web sitemanagement services to the United States Golf Association (USGA) for the1998 U.S. Open golf championship using networking technology from CiscoSystems, Inc. The U.S. Open takes place at the Olympic Club in San Franciscothis week.

The U.S. Open's official Web site (www.usopen.com) offers fans ongoing player updates, scores and other championship news, with hyperlinks to other USGA Web sites. The USGA will use its high-speed Internet connections tothe DIGEX network and routers from Cisco Systems to update content onwww.usopen.com and communicate with its headquarters in Far Hills, New Jersey, from the Olympic Club in San Francisco. Visitors will access www.usopen.com over the DIGEX Internet backbone, which features 100% Cisco Systems networking technology. DIGEX was the first national Internet carrier to be designated a Cisco Powered Network. ISPs such as DIGEX that carry the Cisco Powered Network mark have passed rigorous criteria set by Cisco, ensuring that authorized providers have the equipment, staff, and quality processes in place to provide high-quality network services.

This year, the USGA estimates that the championship's Web site will serve millions of fans per day. To support this huge volume of site traffic, DIGEX Web Site Management has deployed a secure, high-performance Web solution designed to ensure maximum reliability and availability. DIGEX has conducted extensive stress testing of the site as part of a pre-launch performance analysis. To ensure maximum uptime and availability, the site is mirrored at DIGEX's East and West Coast Web Site Management Facilities utilizing Cisco's DistributedDirector, a networking device that redirects end user service requests to the closest and most available server.
