SAN JOSE, Calif. -- May 28, 1998 -- Cisco Systems, Inc. today announced that AlliedSignal, Inc. - a global leader in aerospace, automotive and applied materials engineering - has selected Cisco as its strategic supplier for network infrastructure. Standardizing on Cisco equipment is expected to extend the scalability and multiprotocol features of AlliedSignal's network environment to its international offices.
The agreement involves deployment of various Cisco routers, LAN and WAN switches, and Channel Interface Processors to IBM mainframes. Business-critical applications will leverage the established network services enabled by Cisco IOS. software. The continued expansion of AlliedSignal's enterprise-wide network will support the international roll-out of important networked applications such as the company's new enterprise response program (ERP).
Equipment is expected to include a broad range of Catalyst. LAN switches, WAN switches, Cisco 7000 series routers, AS5200 universal access servers, and the PIX Firewall.
"Allied Signal has implemented more than six hundred Cisco routers and LAN switches around the world and expects to realize the benefits that a one-vendor solution can offer," said Jim Carr, manager of WAN services at AlliedSignal in Tempe, Arizona. "We've invested in the reliability of a Cisco infrastructure, and without that we would not have been able to support the growth that AlliedSignal continues to experience."
"Building on our relationship with AlliedSignal through common vision, planning and execution exemplifies the model for building next-generation enterprise networks," said Walter Foss, vice president of southern area operations for Cisco Systems. "As increasingly dynamic applications such as multimedia and voice integration demand more of the network, it is important to align with customers and provide the total solution."
