SAN JOSE, Calif. - May 26, 1998 - Cisco Systems, Inc. today announced the Cisco 6510 Service Selection Gateway (SSG) and Dashboard and the Cisco User Control Point (UCP). The two products comprise a service creation and control solution that enables service providers to increase profitability by scaling multiple services on a per-user, on-demand basis for mass-market deployment that includes corporations, small office/home office (SOHO) customers, telecommuters and consumers.

Cisco 6510 Service Selection Gateway and Dashboard

The Cisco 6510 Service Selection Gateway (SSG) and Dashboard offer service providers the ability to address the dial and broadband remote access markets by offering their customers a menu of services with a new and innovative way to select those services. The Cisco 6510 SSG and Dashboard allow service providers to promote their latest service offerings, enabling customers to easily select on-demand, additional services beyond any flat-rate service. Each on-demand, additional service selected is fully accounted for using standard RADIUS-based accounting, allowing service providers flexibility in billing.

The Cisco 6510 SSG is a high-speed, dedicated processor that resides in the central office and works in concert with the Dashboard, Cisco UCP and other parts of the network.

"The Cisco 6510 Service Selection Gateway offers many advantages," said Thomas Svensson, Head of Internet Services at Telia in Sweden. "Most importantly our customers will immediately be aware of the latest services available and gain more control over selecting these services. We have conducted trials for our upcoming ADSL services and the Cisco 6510 is a key differentiator for our new offerings."

Cisco User Control Point

The Cisco UCP is a carrier-class, service policy administration system that enables personalized IP services. The Cisco UCP protects service providers' investments because its distributed, fault-tolerant architecture integrates authentication, authorization, accounting, roaming and address-management services into service providers' existing operations support systems (OSSs).

As an integrated software solution, the Cisco UCP works with Cisco IOS. software. It allows service providers to offer multiple individualized services on a distributed network infrastructure. With the Cisco UCP, service providers can differentiate their service offerings and provide added value through delivering end-to-end services that offer a wide variety of pricing options-such as on a flat-rate or per-usage basis-according to the type of service and quality of service (QoS).

The Cisco UCP offers full-featured fault tolerance and load sharing of its components, which supports high availability carrier-class systems. Centralized management enables service providers to easily perform any network-wide management functions.

To ensure that the Cisco UCP is a carrier-class application, Cisco has signed a licensing agreement to adopt Active Software's Integration System to serve as the communications backbone for the Cisco UCP service components. For more information, please see http://www.activesw.com.

The Cisco UCP reinforces Cisco's commitment to providing a complete range of critical business applications for the service provider marketplace. Located in Europe, Belle Systems provides local focus and support for Cisco's European solutions portfolio.
