SAN JOSE, Calif. -- April 20, 1998 -- Cisco Systems, Inc. today announced that it received the top three honors in the April 1998 Business Communications Review (BCR) magazine review of remote access concentrators. The Cisco AS5300 Universal Access Server was named BCR's "Best in Test," "Best Overall," and "Best Performing" after extensive tests that rated configuration, installation, features, management, and performance.

The Cisco AS5300's "Best Overall" rating was achieved in testing against competitive products from Northern Telecom, 3Com, Osicom, RAScom, Ascend and ACC. The tests were performed by Mier Communications, an independent testing center based in Princeton Junction, N.J.

Mier Communications' tests were conducted on a single AS5300 equipped with 96 K56Flex MICA modems (4 T1s). The exemplary test results mirrored those achieved in the September 1997 LANQuest Labs Remote Access Server performance comparison, in which the Cisco AS5300 outperformed the Ascend MAX TNT. The BCR magazine honors were the latest earned by Cisco's award-winning AS5x00 family of access servers. Cisco also received top honors in the July 1997 Network Computing magazine Virtual Private Dial-up Networking review.
