World-Class Broadband Products and Technology for Cable

As part of Cisco's Network-to-User business unit, the Cable Products and Solutions group was created to further strengthen Cisco's commitment to the cable industry. The team leads Cisco's development of world class cable access products including the new Cisco uBR7246 universal broadband router family of hub and headend products. The group will also focus on the integration of cable solutions which combine the Cisco uBR7246, Multimedia Cable Network System (MCNS) modems, Cisco's flagship 12000 gigabit switch router (GSR), universal access servers including the Cisco AS5300 series, and advanced broadband service architectures.

Next-Generation Broadband Solutions

Two-way and telephone return solutions are available today. For two-way ready plant, Cisco will offer end-to-end MCNS-compliant solution bundles based on the Cisco uBR7246 and cable modem partners Sony, Samsung, General Instrument, Com21 and Terayon. For dial return systems, solutions are enhanced by integration of the Cisco AS5300 dial access server with one-way cable modems from General Instruments. Cisco solution offerings are supported by best-in-class training, round-the-clock technical support and worldwide consulting.

Cisco's Cable Products and Solutions team is developing advanced cable architectures to deliver low latency, quality of service (QoS), security and service delivery support necessary for cable multiple system operators (MSOs) to offer advanced data, voice and video services to their subscribers. Cisco has also identified the need to employ long-reach fiber-optic technologies, seamless integration of legacy subscriber management systems and a single operational environment as a high priority.

Cisco and Cable Partnerships and Alliances

Cisco's Cable Products and Solutions team has already established strong relationships with the cable industry and industry suppliers, including alliances with consumer electronics leaders Sony and Samsung, and MCNS interoperability commitments with Com21, Terayon and General Instrument. Working relationships have already been established with the MediaOne Group, with additional partnerships anticipated. For qualifying operators, Cisco Powered Network relationships will also be established to provide training and funding for comarketing, cobranding and joint sales programs.
