MILPITAS, Calif. - December 17, 1997 - Larscom Incorporated (Nasdaq: LARS), a leading provider of WAN access equipment, today announced that the company's Access-T45 T3 DSU has successfully completed interoperability testing for use with Cisco Systems' new packet over DS3 port adapters for the Cisco 7500 and 7200 series routers. The testing, performed at Cisco labs in Chelmsford, MA, confirms that network service providers and enterprise users can depend on full compatibility between Larscom's Access-T45 and the Cisco 7500 router.
Robert Quiros, a product manager for Cisco Systems' dedicated access products, commented, "Interoperability with Larscom's Access T-45 ensures that service providers and enterprise customers can leverage investments in Access T-45s for customer premise and remote site applications while moving forward with cost effective T3 aggregation in the POP and data center. That is a win for our customers."
Access-T45 in the Internet Backbone Linking one or two high-speed applications across a T3 line, the Access-T45 serves a wide range of broadband applications. It plays a major role in Internet backbones and in scalable fractional T3 Internet access services. It is also the choice of a growing number of corporations and public organizations needing the 45 Mbps bandwidth of T3 for WAN connections.
"Larscom has a large installed customer base and, according to a recent Dataquest survey, shipped the largest number of two-port DS3 DSUs in 1996," said Paul Strudwick, Larscom VP of Marketing. "Together, Cisco and Larscom provide a high-quality, standards-based solution to users who are demanding dependability, and manageability for their mission critical networks."
Scalable, Flexible and SNMP Manageable Access-T45 splits the T3 bandwidth between two high-speed serial ports. Each port can be configured for any multiple of 3.158 Mbps-and automatically reconfigured for peak and non-peak hours. In single-port mode, Access-T45 provides a fractional T3 network connection which is remotely scalable from 3.158 to 44.2 Mbps. The optional V.35/RS449 high-speed serial port allows users to integrate legacy equipment such as low-end routers and switches into their networks.
The flexibility of Access-T45 extends to its management options, which include an integral SNMP agent, plus menu-driven front-panel and terminal interfaces. For the performance management today's networks require, Access-T45 gives customers a detailed 24-hour performance history, alarm dialout on conditions they specify, and multiple loopback options and PRBS testing for problem isolation.
