HERNDON, VA - October 28, 1997 - Government network managers now have a reliable source ofcomparable data on Asynchronous Transfer Model (ATM) and Fast Ethernet products through therecent Navy Information Technology for the 21st Century (IT-21) testing of these products fromseveral leading vendors.
In support of the Navy's IT-21 initiative, EDS and the Navy team tested ATM and Fast Ethernetproducts from Cisco Systems, Inc. and several other leading vendors for inclusion in thePC-LAN+ product offering and qualification as IT-21-compliant products. The products weretested for interoperability, standards compliance and performance and Cisco's products rankednumber one across the board in each overall category.
"We're very pleased with these test results and believe that they will help the Navy and othergovernment customers to make purchase decisions with confidence," said Jim Massa, director ofCisco's federal operations. "The vendor qualification testing is yet another measure ofCisco's effort to provide the best IT solutions for government."
The IT-21 vendor qualification testing provided for testing the vendor solutions in thefollowing ways:
- Test script performance with a fully functional network
- With a primary backbone link failure
- With LANE Services failure
- For a single ATM-attached workstation
- For a single Fast Ethernet-attached workstation
The Cisco solutions met the functionality specified for the network in the test plan and rankedfirst in times attained. The performance of the Cisco network was unaffected by thetest-induced backbone link failure and the LAN Emulation Services failure. Cisco ATM and FastEthernet products are currently compliant with all presently ratified standards and were proveninteroperable with all products tested. The Cisco Systems solution performed well duringexecution of the test scripts, and the equipment was qualified for certification as an IT-21solution.
