SUNNYVALE, Calif. September 10, 1997 -- Cisco Systems, Inc. and GlobalCenter, Inc. today announced a new service under GlobalCenter's PrimeDirect portfolio providing one-stop dedicated Internet connectivity for businesses. Complementing its recently announced Digital Distribution strategy, GlobalCenter's channel management approach addresses the end-user side of the content distribution equation by providing through channels the most effective tools to help growing businesses bring their companies and employees on-line. GlobalCenter chose to bundle Cisco equipment with its services to improve use of the Internet as a communications channel for businesses while heightening the employee experience with high-performance access to content. Cisco equipment boasts a successful track record with 85 percent of all Internet traffic flowing through Cisco hardware and software.

"Our focus on digital distribution is rooted in a philosophy to improve the end-user experience," said Joel Davis, General Manager and Senior Vice President of Channel Management at GlobalCenter. "We accomplish this through our Media Distribution Centers and by providing the most effective tools for our channel partners and their end-user customers to reach content. With their solid track record as a leading provider of Internet networking solutions, Cisco helps us offer a strong bundle for the business market."

"GlobalCenter can make it easy for their business customers to establish a presence on the Internet or to build an intranet for intraoffice communications," said Don Listwin, Senior Vice President for Cisco's service provider line of business. "Cisco's customer premises equipment bundled solutions combined with our focus on the Internet marketplace is a win for providers and end users alike."

PrimeDirect with Cisco is now available in major metropolitan areas nationwide. The easy-to-install and use service requires no major upfront capital and includes everything in an integrated turnkey solution with equipment, software, and connectivity. Businesses can choose a standard package which includes the Cisco 1601 router with a Cisco hub, or a bundled package with Cisco's Micro Webserver, a cost-effective, "plug-and-play" server that gives small/medium-sized business, educational, and enterprise customers an easy way to establish an Internet presence or provide intranet-based, intraoffice communications.

The service comes pre-configured to customers that provide advance information, and includes domain name service, CIDR (block of 64 IP addresses), e-mail, browsing, and news feed. Pricing ranges from about $450/month to $1,600/month depending on chosen bundle, speed, and length of contract. GlobalCenter is making the service available to channel partners as well as to businesses who contact the Company directly.

GlobalCenter recently launched Digital Distribution, a new architecture for getting content into people's hands quicker and more effectively. To guard their brand and business, companies have called on GlobalCenter to ensure constant site availability and intelligent content distribution. Complimenting this strategy, GlobalCenter's channel management approach provides effective solutions available through partners to businesses that want to establish and grow their use of the Internet as a strategic channel.

GlobalCenter handles 400 million Internet requests per day and delivers up to a quarter million Internet downloads a day for customers including new media/content providers, software companies, and Internet-centric businesses, and currently serves over 10,000 businesses.
