SAN JOSE, Calif. - August 11, 1997 - Cisco Systems, Inc. today announced the opening of asoftware development center in Chennai, India, focused on network management, diagnostics andtest technologies.
The center will be staffed and operated by HCL Corp., one of India's largest informationtechnology companies. Cisco has invested in the facility by providing networking equipment on ascale such that the development center will be able to function equivalent to developmentoperations at Cisco's San Jose headquarters.
The center is initially staffed with approximately 75 software engineers, and has capacity forfuture growth. It is the largest development center established by Cisco outside the UnitedStates. It will concentrate on software for network management and for product testing andverification. Development projects were already under way before today's official opening ofthe center in Chennai (formerly Madras).
