Cisco to Offer Hub Codeveloped by HP



SAN JOSE, Calif. - August 19, 1997 - Cisco Systems, Inc. and Hewlett-Packard Company todayannounced that Cisco is shipping a new HP 10Base-T hub, which was co-developed by Cisco and HPfor Cisco's customers with small and medium-sized businesses. The 10Base-T hub, based on HP'sbest-in-class AdvanceStack hub family, will be distributed by Cisco through its channelpartners and resellers as part of its High-Performance LAN solutions.

The 10Base-T hub is a key element of Cisco's NetBeyond extended network system of modular,stackable LAN and WAN products for small and medium-sized businesses. The new hub uses CiscoIOS technologies to provide customers with maximum interoperability, security andintegrated management. The 10-Mbps shared hub compliments Cisco's current Catalyst. 1900 and2820 Series Ethernet Switches.

Features

The 10Base-T hub has the NetBeyond extended network system look-and-feel and is available with16 managed 10Base-T ports. The hub is manageable using the CiscoWorks WindowsNetwork Management software and provides customers with features such as Simple NetworkManagement Protocol (SNMP), Telnet and out-of-band management console support. Hub- andport-level security features include auto port disabling, eavesdrop and intruder prevention,network-management alarm and password protection to prevent unauthorized network access. Thehub also supports an optional Cisco redundant power supply to maximize uptime.
