SAN JOSE, Calif. - June 10, 1997 - Cisco Systems, Inc. today announced that Alameda,Calif.-based Pilot Network Services, Inc. will standardize on Cisco IOS(TM) software and newhigh-performance hardware technologies to further enhance security, reliability and performanceacross Pilot's portfolio of secure Internet access, hosting and Virtual Private Network (VPN)services.
By standardizing on Cisco technologies, Pilot will extend service performance and networkreliability and obtain additional information about usage patterns to further enhance thesecurity of its industry-leading secure networking solutions. Pilot's services, backed by thecompany's Dynamic Firewall technology, protect corporate networks and Web sites by constantlyscanning network events for attack patterns and dynamically implementing new defensesthroughout Pilot's nationwide secure network.
Network enhancements provided by Cisco include RSP4 and VIP2 technology which boostsperformance by providing higher throughput rates and offloading switching and other tasksnormally performed by the router CPU. Pilot will increase the reliability of its network bystandardizing on Catalyst(R) 5000 switches, which enable sophisticated traffic isolation and hotredundancy capabilities. In addition, Cisco will provide Pilot with Netflow(TM) Switching, whichallows highly granular tracking and management of customer traffic.
