Fluke and Cisco Systems Collaborate to Troubleshoot Virtual Lans

EVERETT, Wash. -- Fluke (NYSE: FLK), a leader in compact, professionalelectronic test equipment, today announced a signed license agreement with CiscoSystems Inc. that provides Fluke with access to proprietary protocol details usedin Cisco Catalyst(TM) 5000 series of switches.

As part of the agreement, Fluke has made use of technical information fromCisco's Virtual Trunking Protocol (VTP) and Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP),protocols that communicate information between devices, to enhance features foundin the new SwitchWizard option (version 7.5) for the Enterprise LANMeter.

"Cisco offers leading networking technology for building scaleable networksacross the enterprise," said Jayshree Ullal, vice president of enterprisemarketing, Cisco Systems. "The agreement with Fluke offers customerssignificantly more sophisticated tools for managing and troubleshootingnetworks."

Fluke's enhanced SwitchWizard option is the first portable troubleshootingproduct available that allows network maintainers to see across virtual localarea networks (VLAN) throughout the entire enterprise environment. At the touchof a button, the enhanced SwitchWizard option provides information on CiscoCatalyst 5000 series of switches such as Slot and Port number display, andindicates the VLAN number of the port.

"The need for innovative installation, maintenance and troubleshooting toolscontinues to grow as VLAN environments are built and network complexityincreases," said Barry Rowan, senior vice president and general manager of FlukeNetworks Division. "Fluke's relationship with Cisco allows us to make use of itsprotocols in order to support the latest in switching technology."

Also available with the enhanced SwitchWizard option is the ability to find theport where a MAC address or IP address is attached, no matter which port or VLANthe address resides.
