SAN JOSE, Calif. - March 26, 1997 - Cisco Systems, Inc. todayannounced availability of Cisco Enterprise Accounting, the first CiscoIOS(TM) software network management application designed to identify,monitor and control network usage costs.
Cisco Enterprise Accounting allows enterprises to make informeddecisions concerning the costs of owning and operating a network. Thisproduct is the first in a family of enterprise network managementaccounting and billing applications delivering powerful, easy-to-usesolutions for usage-based costing and operational information ofcorporate networks and Internet access. Future versions of the productwill support additional WAN and LAN applications.
"For our customers to deliver enterprise level service commitments, suchas networked multimedia and commerce, they must have a way ofcorrelating network availability, performance and costs to actualusage," said Stephen DeWitt, vice president and general manager ofnetwork management for Cisco Systems. "Enterprise Accounting gives ITmanagers a way to manage ISDN usage and costs thereby creating acost-effective foundation for delivery of emerging networkedapplications."

Enterprise Accounting responds to customers needs to identify andcontrol network costs, lower the overall cost of network ownership,detect equipment problems, meet service level agreements and providevaluable information to Information Systems (IS) staff. EnterpriseAccounting is designed to provide departmental billback, end-useraccountability, organizational budgeting, capacity planning, growthforecasting and instituting policy-based management. Version 1.0supports ISDN network applications enabling an enterprise to collect,account, bill, track, monitor and report on enterprise network usage.

Composed of two software programs, Version 1.0 supports IntegratedServices Digital Networking (ISDN) applications. The PC-basedaccounting applications, running under Windows 95, provide costallocation, directory services, call detail records, traffic statisticsand exception reports. These accounting applications are enabled withcall detail information from a Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)Data Collection Engine. This engine, running SunOS and Sun Net Manager,polls, collects, translates and correlates call history information fromISDN routers and access servers.
