Microsoft Joins Cisco's Enterprise Security Alliance

REDMOND, Wash., and SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Feb. 24, 1997 -- Microsoft Corp. and Cisco Systems Inc. today announcedthey will collaborate to integrate and improve security solutions in the enterprise.

Microsoft will be a founding partner of the new Cisco Enterprise Security Alliance . The goals of the allianceare to deploy interoperable, standards-based security across networked clients, servers andinfrastructure, and to enable consistent, centrally managed security policy for enterprise customers.

"We share customers that require comprehensive security solutions for their enterprise needs," saidRich Tong, vice president of marketing, personal and business systems division at Microsoft. "Cisco andMicrosoft are working through this alliance to integrate necessary technologies to assureend-to-end security."

"This alliance provides important linkage from the desktop to the enterprise," said Alex Mendez, vicepresident of enterprise marketing for Cisco Systems. "It provides a secure foundation to deliver enhancednetwork and application services to authenticated end users regardless of their location.

Within the Enterprise Security Alliance, Cisco and Microsoft have identified a joint road map fornetwork security. They will develop a common specification and will work together on key technologiessuch as IPsec and digital certificates.
