Cisco Employees Donate $42,000 to Project Bread to Feed Massachusetts Hungry

CHELMSFORD, Mass., Dec. 19, 1996 -- Cisco Systems culminated a month offundraising activities today with a donation of more than 1,000 pounds offoodand $42,000 in cash contributions to Project Bread, a leading anti-hungerorganization in Massachusetts. The fundraiser was part of a companywideeffortthat netted more than one-million pounds of food or equivalent cash donationsbetween Cisco's offices in Massachusetts, North Carolina and California.

The donations from Chelmsford will be used to support soup kitchens, foodpantries, homeless shelters and other emergency feeding programs inMassachusetts, according to Ellen Parker, executive director of Project Bread.

"This year Cisco Systems has demonstrated itself to be a true communityleader,"Parker said. "Project Bread thanks the employees of Cisco Systems for atrulygenerous gift that will make a difference in the lives of hungry children andfamilies in this community and beyond."

In Massachusetts, Cisco employees shoveled snow, set up a mock toll booth inthecompany parking lot and 'jailed' fellow workers to raise the donations.On thelast day of the fundraiser, Cisco Chairman John Morgridge matcheddollar-for-dollar all employee cash donations for the day, raising the day'stotal to $20,000.

"Prosperity thinking tells us to give when we're doing well. Today, withProject Bread, Cisco employees at every level of the organization pitchedin tomake a difference in the community," said George Wright, senior manager atCisco in Chelmsford. He added that Cisco has supported Walk for Hunger andother programssponsored by Project Bread since opening an office in Massachusetts in 1994.

During the fundraiser Cisco volunteers helped box the food donations forProjectBread to deliver to Lazarus House, Lawrence, Mass., and Neighbors in Need,Lowell, Mass. Project Bread funds emergency feeding programs in more than100Massachusetts communities including Chelmsford, Lawrence and Lowell.

Cisco employs over 300 people in Chelmsford and 10,000 worldwide.
