SAN JOSE, Calif. - November 15, 1996 - Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CSCO) today announced that Gordon Astles, 45, has been named vice president of the Americas responsible for Cisco's sales operations in Canada, Mexico, Central America and South America.
Astles joined Cisco in 1992 as General Manager for Canada. During his two year leadership, revenue grew by more than 300 percent. In that same period Cisco's customer satisfaction rating rose to 4.07 (on a scale of one to five; five being superior) and internetworking market share to more than 65 percent. Astles moved to Europe in 1994 and was responsible for field operations in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) for Cisco Systems. Earlier this year, he was named vice president, EMEA channels.

Prior to joining Cisco, Astles spent twelve years at IBM and eight years with companies involved in the personal computer channel business.
