SAN JOSE, Calif. - October 15, 1996 - Cisco Systems, Inc. todayannounced enhancements to its IPeXchange Internet Gateway software forNovell NetWare-based networks. Enhancements include IPeXchangeMonitor, an HTML-based Internet access management tool that simplifiesthe management of outgoing Internet traffic and connections. The newmanagement tool is currently available with the Windows NT-version ofthe IPeXchange Internet Gateway software.
IPeXchange Internet Gateway software enables users to run corporateintranet applications and connect to the Internet without the cost,installation and configuration required to have TCP/IP software at eachdesktop. With this new version, IPeXchange users now have support forpopular 32-bit applications.
As Internet and intranet use becomes more widespread, NetWare managersrequire solutions that enable their IPX-based networks to runTCP/IP-based applications and communicate over the Internet andcorporate intranets. According to Novell, the installed base of Novellnetwork users is estimated at more than 55 million. Cisco developedthe IPeXchange product lines to enable these customers tocost-effectively and securely connect their networks to the Internetand to corporate intranets.
With the addition of IPeXchange Monitor, network administrators canallow or deny Internet access based on any combination of the followingcriteria: user or group, time of day, type of service and destinationIP address. Network managers can customize various levels of accesscontrols while managing network activity from a single easy-to-useHTML-graphical interface.

Cisco IPeXchange software addresses Internet Security, a top priorityamong network managers. Installed on a server, the IPeXchange softwareenables users to deploy IP-based applications without having to installTCP/IP software on each desktop. This server-based architectureprotects users' desktops from unauthorized access over public networkssuch as the Internet. Users will also benefit by saving on costsassociated with network software purchases and network managementtasks.Cisco IPeXchange Internet Gateway also requires little to noreconfiguration of existing Novell networks and no downtime duringinstallation. With Cisco IPeXchange software, users need only a singleIP address to connect an entire Novell network to a corporate intranetor the Internet - providing a single point of management.
The IPeXchange Internet Gateway is part of the IPeXchange family ofproducts, which also includes the IPeXchange 1000 series routers -hardware-based gateway solutions. As a combined hardware and softwaresolution, this series provides secure plug-and-play Novell networkconnections to corporate intranets and the Internet.

Both the NetWare and Windows NT versions of Cisco IPeXchange InternetGateway software are currently shipping.
