New agreement includes Microcom modems in future Cisco products
SAN JOSE, Calif. - July 29, 1996 - Cisco Systems, Inc. today announced thesigning of a new strategic agreement with
Microcom supplies Cisco with its customized 12-port V.34 (28,800 bps)modems for use in the Cisco AS5200. Microcom modems deliver central sitenetwork management capabilities and enable configuration and management ofany modem deployed in the Cisco AS5200.

The Cisco AS5200, announced in January 1996, is the first product in afamily of Universal Access Servers that integrate traditional analogtelecommunications technology and advanced Integrated Services DigitalNetwork (ISDN) technologies in a single chassis. The Cisco AS5200, nowshipping in volume, is being adopted rapidly by Internet service providers(ISPs), regional bell operating companies (RBOCs) and large corporationsthat need to provide both digital and analog access to users on anenterprise network.
