First to support supplemental telephone services over ISDN


SAN JOSE Calif. - May 13, 1996 - Cisco Systems, Inc. today extended itsline of small office/home office (SOHO) solutions with modem-sizedEthernet-to-ISDN routers that allow Internet access and simultaneousconnections to a telephone or facsimile machine, eliminating the need formultiple telephone lines or additional Integrated Services Digital Network(ISDN) devices.

The Cisco 765 and 766, andCiscoPro(tm) 765 and 766 routers offertwo analog telephone interfaces that permit standard telephones, facsimilemachines and modems to share one ISDN Basic Rate Interface (BRI) line. Theproducts can connect each ISDN B channel with two different sitessimultaneously and are the first in their class to support supplementaltelephone services including call waiting, call hold and call retrieve.

"These new products, tailored for telecommuters and small officeenvironments, break new ground in affordability and ease of use," saidBruce Laird, director of product marketing for Cisco's Professional OfficeDivision. "The Cisco 765 and 766, and CiscoPro 765 and 766 integrateperfectly with central site access servers such as the Cisco AS5200 tocreate an end-to-end solution for users requiring access to centralnetworks and the Internet."

Configuration

The Cisco 765 and 766, and the CiscoPro 765 and 766 provide users withseveral configuration options. Users can configure these products via atouch-tone telephone and can choose from a variety of options forallocating ISDN B channel usage between analog and data calls on a singleISDN BRI line. The products include ConnectPro software, a MicrosoftWindows-based application that simplifies installation, configuration andmanagement. In the near future, Cisco's ClickStart will enableusers toinstall their router in minutes with an easy-to-use Web interface.

The Cisco 765 and CiscoPro 765 provide an ISDN BRI S/T interface forconnecting to an external Network Termination 1 (NT1) device and will beavailable in more than 25 countries worldwide. The Cisco 766 and CiscoPro766 have a built-in NT1 interface and provide an ideal solution for NorthAmerican users.

The Cisco 765 and 766 are available immediately directly from Cisco. TheCiscoPro 765 and 766 are available immediately through authorized CiscoProresellers.
